Tampa

Bus ride was ok, but I went a little stir crazy....... It was a 6/7 hour bus ride to a place that you can drive to in 3 hours so it was a bit frustrating. But it was CHEAP like the budgie. So probably worth it.

Downtown Tampa.... Downtown is interesting in a few cities I've been to in the US. Tampa reminded me of San Jose and Miami in that their downtown wasn't bustling like Australian capitals. There are not a lot of shops/things to do in these downtown areas. Everyone works in the suburbs and not much happens downtown at all. Hence they have problems with undesirables.

Channelside - ritzy area of town!

Tampa Skyline

We were waiting out the front to buy tickets in the nosebleed section for $5 each and a lady came up and offered us her season tickets cos it's the end of the season and she had spare tickets left over..... so we sat about 20 rows back right behind the catcher! Great spot to watch from, although no baseballs came flying our way!

Jon and me and the baseball - Tampa Bay Devil Rays vs Baltimore Orioles

Went to the 'Big Cat Rescue' park, where these guys look after animals picked up from Las Vegas stage shows and crap zoo's around the country. It was great to see these animals being cared for but it upset me that animals like these could be hurt in a country like the US. Apparently, under Florida law you can keep a lion in a cage barely bigger than its body.

Good to see your still blogging your guts out mate, sorry for the short absence, works been flat knacker lately.
If you read cams last blog we did head out last thursday and had an absolute blinder.
The night started with a half hour of power (stupid amount of shots)at a friends in richmond. Then off to the classy Depot nightclub.
Our entry brought the total patron number to a whopping 11. This was soon overlooked though by the desire to get more wasted.. After taking a seat infornt of the bar staff (my embarrassed little sister) we ordered two tequila shots and two beers. This came to a grand total of $4...
$16.50 later we were looking pretty sketchy. It was time to move on... at which stage cam hurled..
But he's never one to get in the way of a great night. So like a fat, has-been gridiron player, i tucked him under my arm and we ran on..
We jumped into a cab to go to the city, this plan was interrupted shortly after with cams second and third puke of the night...
We finally landed in the city. Goo.. closed.
At approximately 1:23 am it was time for some trance, so off to the thursday rave at Altitude we went.
On entering the main dance floor two questions came to mind.. Could a couple of blind 23 year old hacks show up these young ravers and send a message out to todays kids that you dont need drugs to rock hard? ...and where did i get this glow stick from?
The answer to both could only ever be known by the clubs security camera. But it wasnt pretty.
At around 3 am we started our trek from the middle of the city back to the Depot.. At this point cam got lucky, yep, he found a very large 'keep left' sign. Which he cradled like a baby all the way back to richmond.
After our 3 mile hike, Kate drove our sorry ass's (and cams new sign) home at 4am from the depot.
Needless to say we were both feeling very sheepish in the morning.
Whoa, massive blog.. im knacked. Looking forward to your little vid at your sisters 21st, should be a good one, you'll be sorely missed saturday.

Hello David...
Lovely photos. I would like to think that you are perhaps starting to get a more realistic view of the US? Maybe when you think 'A country like the US' your perspective will be a bit different? Sometimes the wealthiest countries, like the wealthiest people, loose sign of what is important in life. Like a responsibility towards animal (and human)life. New Orleans was a good glimpse of what lies beneath the sometimes shiny reputation. Americans have spoiled child syndrome. I think quite often, the ramifications of the 'I want' generation is hidden away...like those lions. It's not what people want to see and like New Orleans, it is not what America wants the world to see. The land of denial.
Stay safe :-)
Come home enlightened.

kitty! awww....!!! I know what you mean about the animals not being treated right in 'civilised countires' who should know better. When I visited the Parc de la tete d'or here the animal's enclosures and not very big and the giraffes are a bit sad. I took pics for Rayol though. Sounds like you had a good time visiting Jon. More sports so you must have had a good time! lol. That lady giving you tickets is cool.
