I'm so confused.... what side of the road are we driving on here?? where am I? what country am I in??
I have been in 3 countries in about a week and I'm about to go to Japan! (and Fiji where there's supposed to be a coup???) better talk to the embassy about that one....
France is beautiful, well Lyon is beautiful, can't vouch for the rest of it. There is a Manhatten-ish landmass with three sections seperated by rivers. All the buildings are old and very French and even though there is graffiti down by the river, it is in French so it is strangely charming.
I am in the very surreal world of McDonald's in Lyon.... while a low proportion of people speak English, the radio is mostly American and English (and Australia) music. (50 Cent is on the radio at the moment)... when we went to a bar the other night they were playing rap videos from Dre and Snoop etc.... heheheh It sounds funny when French people are speaking their beautiful language then suddenly 'Snoop' is thrown in!
This demonstrates my understanding of goings on around here. I only recognise basic words and then Nouns. If i listen to a French conversation I can sort of understand what they are talking about based on words that sound the same in English like Universatie and Snoop etc....
But mostly I have no idea what people are saying and I keep saying English things to people! My brain isn't quick enough to adjust to being in a country where I am entirely surrounded by people who don't speak English... I have been saying thank-you, hello and gday!
London was great, I got to see the palace, big ben, houses of parliament, downing st, tower of london, tower bridge.... but had food poisoning one of the days so spent one day in bed which was annoying! oh well, I'm sure I'll be back in the UK at some stage!! The UK passport was fantastic! Walked straight through customs with all the locals and skipped the foreigners queue! I felt like I was cheating the system. I was no more a local than the guy from Kazakhstan lining up with the foreigners!
Thank you to everyone for your messages!! I really love getting messages on the blog and I read every single one even if I don't get around to writing back! Internet has been harder to come by while away from Miami.
Have to go research hostels in Japan and coups in Fiji!!
See you soon, I might add photos at Heathrow while waiting for my plane if I can find internet!
Love you all and see the Aussies in a few weeks!!
Dave

Hi Dave! I hope that you are having a great time in Lyon. Cara has not posted a picture and I was wondering if you could post one of you and her? I wish that you both could stay longer in Lyon. Good luck in japan and if you got sick in London better watch the food in japan...some if it will be watching you! I have heard that some of it has eyes.
